The Council of the Xunta today approved the rules and the upcoming publication, on a competitive basis, of the call for grants for the production and co-production of Galician audiovisual projects for 2026, which increases its funding by 16.6% compared to this 2025 to reach €3.5 million.
With this new increase, the upward trend that the autonomous government's direct investment in Galician film and series production has been experiencing over the last five years is maintained, in line with the intense activity the sector is registering, as well as the ability and talent that are proven by the numerous selections at prestigious international festivals and the awards won. Sirat is one of the prime examples of this international journey, in which other titles subsidized through this line, such as Onte á noite conquistei Tebas, Decorado, Ariel, As estacións, and As liñas descontinuas, also stand out.> This is the main investment line for the Galician audiovisual industry within the annual grant program that the Ministry of Culture, Language, and Youth manages through the Galician Agency for Cultural Industries to provide financial support to companies from the conception and development of projects to their production, filming, distribution, marketing, and exhibition.
The guidelines establish five categories of eligible projects, depending on whether they are feature-length cinematic fiction and/or animation films, documentaries, feature films in international co-production with a minority Spanish stake, short films, or series for television or on-demand platforms.
The project scoring system continues to prioritize the use of Galician, the participation of women in all areas, and the employment of professionals, resources, and services from Galician companies. Additionally, the selection criteria are closely related to the territory in terms of filming locations, studios, or the creative, technical, and artistic professionals involved, without prejudice to the quality of the content and its potential for circulation at the national and international level.
The purpose of these conditions is clearly reflected in the 26 film and television titles, among which the Government distributed the €3 million called for in 2025. Notable among them are projects with female-led teams and the predominant use of Galician in the original versions. Additionally, eight of the feature films that received subsidies had previously been awarded grants from the Galician government for scriptwriting and for the initial development of pre-production tasks, making these grants easier for them to continue on to the screen.
