Viladonga's hillfort

Add to my bookmark list

The hillfort Castro de Viladonga, declared a Cultural Heritage Site by the Xunta de Galicia in 2009, stands out in the landscape of Terra Chá in Lugo. The site is a formal model of the typical northwest Celtic hillfort, featuring multiple walls and ditches that enclose two pre-hillforts or terraced areas and a spacious central summit. Within this main enclosure is where most of the discovered structures are located so far: dwellings, enclosures, storage facilities, and some buildings used for social or communal purposes. These are all grouped together, forming clusters or "neighborhoods" organized around two main streets and a path or walkway parallel to the main wall.
