The Serra do Courel mountain range spans 21,020 hectares and is geologically the most diverse among the Galician mountain ranges. Within its expanse, deep valleys flourish with dense vegetation and Mediterranean and Atlantic forests blend. Towering peaks, surpassing 1500 meters in altitude, alternate with these verdant valleys. Stretching across the municipalities of Folgoso do Courel, Quiroga, and Pedrafita do Cebreiro, this mountain range also extends into the neighboring province of León. It's a mountainous landscape dotted with hidden villages that, due to their challenging access, have preserved the untouched beauty of authenticity. It is recognized as a Zone of Special Protection for Natural Values (ZEPVN).
