The Fragas do Eume, which spread across a rugged valley with deep gorges, are the best-preserved coastal Atlantic forest in Europe and one of the very few of its kind in the continent. Encompassing 9,125 hectares, it was designated a Natural Park in 1997. Shaped like a triangle, the park's vertices and borders are marked by the municipalities of As Pontes, Pontedeume, and Monfero. The park spans the municipalities of Cabanas, A Capela, As Pontes de García Rodríguez, Monfero, and Pontedeume.
