It stands atop Pena Leboreira, in the parish of Nogueirosa, from where it commands the entire mouth of the Eume River and the starting point of the Ares Estuary. It is one of the finest examples of a cliffside castle. The irregularities in the layout are due to the necessity of adapting to the rock upon which it was built. Currently in ruins, the keep tower, standing at a height of 20 meters, is well-preserved but not accessible.
