The Casa de las Campanas in Pontevedra today hosted the presentation of the 13th edition of AuGAL, Master Class of Galician Audiovisuals, which starts tomorrow at the Faculty of Communication with a session focused on the feature film El cuerpo abierto, by director Ángeles Huerta. The Xunta de Galicia and the University of Vigo are organising this programme, aimed at both students and professionals in the sector, which in this new edition has a special feminine accent through the titles chosen to analyse the creative and technical processes of film and television made in Galicia.
The director of the Axencia Galega das Industrias Culturais, Jacobo Sutil, participated in this event, in which he shared a table with Emma Torres, dean of the Faculty of Communication; Luis Torres, area director attached to the Vice-rectorate of the campus, and Paulino Pérez, professor of this faculty and coordinator of AuGAL together with Miguel Anxo Fernández.
In his speech, the representative of the Regional Ministry of Culture, Education, Vocational Training and Universities underlined the double aspect of this initiative, which combines its educational purpose around creative and production processes with the opportunity for dissemination that it represents for Galician audiovisuals through the opening of its eight sessions to the general public free of charge. At the same time, he highlighted the feminine look of the chosen productions, "with the main reference to the Concha de Ouro of the San Sebastian Festival for El cuerno, by Jaione Camborda", who will exchange impressions with those attending the session on 21 February.
The head of Cultural Industries also referred to the film El cuerpo abierto, which will be presented by its producer, Gaspar Broullón, as well as Salta! by Olga Osorio, who will be in Pontevedra on 28 February. This female protagonism is also reflected in the stories of the feature films Cuando toco un animal, by Ángel Filgueira, who will take part in the session on 19 December together with the producers Silvia Fuentes and Ángeles Fazáns, and Matria, by Álvaro Gago, which will be the focus of the closing day on 27 March, as well as the series Motel Walkirias, which will be presented by its director, Ghaleb Jaber Martínez, on 6 March.
Sutil presented these works, all of them produced with subsidies from the Xunta de Galicia, as an example of the joint effort between the sector and the Galician government to develop an audiovisual industry with a recognised artistic and professional quality, capable of "standing out in the national and international market with a high competitive level".
Eight sessions and a workshop
In his words, the eight sessions programmed this year show the "diversity and transversality of Galician audiovisual creation in terms of genres and formats". Thus, in Pontevedra, the works of the competition A Cantera, organised by the Faculty of Communication, will be shown on 12 December; and the short films Antes de que se ponga el sol, by Nani Matos; La entrevista, by Fernando Tato, and Amanece la noche más ancha, by Carlos Fernández de Vigo, on 7 February.
At the same time, this 13th edition includes a script workshop by Sara Varela, under the title Creación de un microrrelato, with sessions on 1 and 15 December and 9 February.
All AuGAL events will take place at the Faculty of Communication, on the Xunqueira campus, in the afternoon.
