The Regional Government of Galicia is boosting its fund to attract film shoots to our region, increasing the amount of aid available by 10% compared to last year to reach €2.2 million in 2025. This amount will encourage the filming of new feature films and fiction series in our region by production companies from Galicia, the rest of Spain, and Europe.
Co-financed by the Regional Ministry of Culture, Language, and Youth and the European Union within the framework of the Galicia Feder 2021-2027 program, this line of support also aims to promote the Galician audiovisual value chain, favoring sustainable growth and quality employment.
Thus, according to the terms and conditions published today in the Official Gazette of Galicia, the amounts of up to €350,000 that beneficiary companies may receive will necessarily involve a minimum expenditure in Galicia of €1,000,000 for feature films and €1,300,000 for series in the case of Galician production companies, and €1,500,000 in the case of foreign production companies. In addition, the projects supported must involve a minimum of 20 working days of filming in Galician locations and allocate at least 40% of their eligible budget to personnel expenses, also incurred in Galicia.
Application deadline
Feature films and fiction series are eligible for these grants, on a non-competitive basis, provided that the latter have previous seasons with a minimum of 150 minutes of broadcast time. The application period will be open on the Xunta's website between Monday 23rd and October 1st or, where applicable, until the €2,200,000 allocated has been exhausted.
The maintenance and reinforcement of the regional fund for attracting film shoots is based on the impact of the six film shoots subsidized in 2024, which generated an economic return of €21.6 million and more than 647 jobs, calculated on an annual full-time equivalent basis. Support was obtained that year for the feature films Romería, which Carla Simón premiered at the recent Cannes Film Festival (France); Rondallas, the new film by Daniel Sánchez Arévalo; Dímelo bajito, produced by Vaca Films for Prime Video and directed by Denis Rovira, and Me has robado el corazón, by director Chus Gutiérrez and presented by the AIE of the same name, as well as the series Marusía by CTV and the new season of Clanes, also produced by Vaca.
According to data specifically compiled by a research team at the University of Santiago de Compostela, for every euro invested in these six titles through this aid fund, 12 euros were generated in economic activity in our Community.
Filming is the eighth of the nine calls for proposals planned this year as part of the audiovisual sector subsidy program, which will involve a direct investment in the sector of 6.84 million euros to support film and television projects from the very inception of the idea to its arrival on the screen.
