The Ministry of Culture, Language and Youth has just published the award of the Xunta de Galicia grants for audiovisual festivals, through which it is investing 310,000 euros in the organization of the new editions of 11 competitions that are strategic for the sector. With a budget that has grown since its creation in 2014 and which increased by 3.3% in 2026, the goal of these grants is to support the consolidation of the Galician circuit of professional events in this field, which stands out for its wide variety of specialization in genres and formats. The annual calendar of film festivals brings international titles to the public, while also serving as a launchpad for the latest Galician production. The list of subsidized festivals is headed, in terms of the amounts received, by (S8) International Peripheric Cinema Festival of A Coruña (€46,871), and the Play-Doc International Documentary Festival (€44,043), which is precisely being held these days in Tui. They are followed by the Cans Film Festival of Porriño (€38,002), the Intersección Contemporary Audiovisual Art Festival of A Coruña (€37,931), FICBUEU International Short Film Festival of Bueu (€37,931), Curtocircuíto of Santiago de Compostela (€27,638), Novos Cinemas International Film Festival of Pontevedra (€24,819), Curtas Festival of the Imaginary of Vilagarcía de Arousa (€22,337), Carballo Interplay (11,862 euros), Galician Freaky Film Festival of Vigo (9,924 euros), and MICE International Ethnographic Film Festival, also in Santiago de Compostela (8,636 euros).Managed through a competitive bidding process, the grants required that the subsidized festivals have a minimum duration of four days with at least 20 screenings, as well as three consecutive editions held in the immediately preceding years. Additionally, the programming proposal had to include 5% titles or five sessions of Galician film production and/or direction. The full content of the resolution can be found in the grants section of the Galician Agency for Cultural Industries' website.
