The Government of Galicia will continue in 2026 to promote Galician audiovisual talent with the reissue of the specific grant call that will help bring 11 new short films and feature films in the original Galician language to fruition. As set forth in the rules published in the Official Gazette of Galicia, this line of support, which opens the sector's aid program for the coming year, will direct 176,000 euros to the production of six short films at 8,000 euros per project, to the post-production of two shorts with 4,000 euros each, and to the production of three feature films. 4000 euros for the production of six short films at 8,000 euros per project, 4,000 euros for the post-production of two shorts, and 40,000 euros for the production of three feature films by first-time directors.
This is one of the longest-running grant lines of its kind at the regional level, with the goal of encouraging the incorporation of new creations into the professional industry. Through them, the goal is to stimulate the generation of narrative proposals of special cinematic value and the cultural enrichment of Galicia through various forms of audiovisual expression, while also facilitating their role as an instrument for the promotion of the Galician language.
For their award, in a competitive process, criteria will be considered related to the quality and creativity of the projects, cinematic viability, or cultural contribution within the context of Galicia. For proposals for short film post-production and feature film production, the films' potential for circulation, as well as their release and distribution plan, will also be evaluated.These grants, which can be applied for until January 16, are part of the annual planning of aid for the sector that the Ministry of Culture, Language, and Youth manages through the Galician Agency for Cultural Industries. This program, for which a total investment of more than €6.5 million is planned for 2026, covers the different phases of the audiovisual process: from the inception of projects to their arrival on screens, including production, filming, distribution, and marketing.
The three feature films subsidized by the 2025 line for the promotion of Galician audiovisual talent were Lección de botánica, by Xiana do Teixeiro; The Psalms, by Pablo Dopazo, and Souls in Unison, by Pablo Gómez Sala and Sara Blas Bolonio. The short films in development that benefited were Acusgramas and Transgraphies, by Belén Cordero Rodríguez; Stones, by Martín Romero Outeiral; Auras. Visions of Blindness, by Nela Fraga Rivas; Journey to Infinity, by David Fidalgo Omil; Ardente Garañón, by Anxo Soilán Lage; The Second Hand, by Alba Domínguez Serén; Quintana Martelo, by Martela Films, and Plumass, by Cru Producions, the last two for the post-production phase.
